Interpreting Intentional Imprecision

Many ad agencies have slogans that are far from the truth. Such as Nike's slogan, "Just do It", do what exactly? These ads will get you because it sounds true and trendy but look at the fine print.
-no battery's included
-taxes not included
These ads are not illegal but are very stretched.

Media Literacy Challenge

This chapter is about how the media and ads share little white lies in their commercials and how we do not even notice it.

I saw a commercial not too long ago and it said "kills 99.9% of all germs". Why not 100%? I also saw a commercial that was about this new medication, Skyrizi. It is for chron's disease, but the side effects are deadly. They stated all of the side effects at the very end of the commercial and very quickly. They said it could cause fainting, swelling, trouble breathing, chest tightness, and skin rash. These were all said after the whole "this medicine has changed my life" comments. I consider these types of ads to be potentially harmful. What if these side effects happen to you? Some of these ads state at the end that their medication could cause a stroke or even death. Many older men and women rely on these medications just because they saw them on an add like those listed above. After you realize that these ads have white lies and half-written ads, you will come to terms that these ads are not meant to help you. It is actually the complete opposite. Always remember, the media is not here to help, they are here to make money!
